Fly Casting Instruction
Scott is a 3 times World Spey casting champion and was team captain for the winning Scotland team at the Spey casting world championships in Ireland 2006. He has been a fully qualified casting instructor for over 10 years holding an Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors Certificate the UK's highest level of casting instructor.
Casting instruction can be on a hourly or daily bases and will take place on the River Ness or at a venue that suits you.
The instruction caters for all levels of caster, from the absolute beginner who wants to start off correctly, right through to the more advanced levels where a caster wants to adjust things slightly to give themselves more consistency when casting, giving them better accuracy or distance. Each lesson will be tailored to suit each persons particular level and needs.
During each lesson we break down each cast into easy achievable steps, allowing the caster to gain a clear understanding of how each cast works.
All tackle can be supplied free of charge, as well as advice on what tackle would suit each person. During the lesson, general fishing tips can also be given and any questions you might have on any aspect of the casting or fishing will be answered.

Exclusive Residential Spey Casting Master Class 2019
In 2019 we are running 2 courses on the following dates 18 to 20 April or 16 to 18 May 2019.
We have been running these courses since 2004 with clients coming from throughout the UK as well as from across the world, to join us on this 2 day course. Accommodation can be provided for 2 nights, staying at one of the Highlands best award winning hotels, the 4 star Deluxe New Drumossie Hotel. During your stay you'll be booked into the hotel, on a double room single occupancy bases with full board, covering breakfast and dinner, the only added extra you might have is additional bar drinks that are not covered on the course, (non fishing partners are welcome, as well as fishing partners that also want to join the course will also get a reduction on the course cost if sharing a room). Alternatively you can make your own arrangements for accommodation and the course cost will reflect this option.
The casting instruction will take place on the River Ness, Ness-side fishings a short drive from the hotel, where the facilities are excellent. During the course Scott will also be assisted by Ness-sides head gillie Ryan Rutherford. Lunch will be provided on both days.
Every aspect of Spey casting is covered by breaking all the different casts down into easily achievable steps allowing a clear understanding of each cast and how it works. The course is well structured and run in a very informative and friendly atmosphere, each caster will gain a clear understanding of all the different Spey casts and fly fishing in general.
During the 2 days we will cover all the different Spey casts including;
- Roll cast
- Jump roll cast
- Single spey cast
- Double spey cast
- Snake roll cast
- Circle C cast
- How to stand and hold the rod properly
- How the fly line loads the rod
- How to flex the rod properly
- How the rod and line work together
The course will also cover more general but important topics like;
- How to wade safely
- How to stay warm and dry when fishing
- How to read the water like an expert
- How to choose the right tackle that suits you and your fishing environment
River Ness
All inclusive price of £699, however where booking the course alone the price is £399.
The course has a maximum of 8 people so places are strictly limited.
